This 9km route, with its 114 curves, skirts Chapmans Peak, the 593m southerly Constantiaberg and follows the rocky coastline to unfold breathtaking views in both directions. Chapmans Peak Drive was the brainchild of sir Frederic de Waal, the first administrator of the Cape Province. The route was formally opened in 1922.
Chapmans Peak Drive, now a toll-road is a natural asset and resource and is of strategic economic importance to business, local residents, and tourism.
