About this route
Tucked away between the majestic Langeberg and Riviersonderened mountain ranges, this stretch of paradise unites the four towns of Ashton, McGregor, Bonnievale and Robertson. The Robertson Wine Route incorporates 48 wine farms, a number of which have been owned by the same families for generations, with many of these prestigious wine farms situated along the banks of the Breede river – the lifeblood of this lower rainfall area. The Robertson Wine Valley offers a rejuvenating departure from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and an ideal destination for travellers journeying along Route 62.

Originally recognized for producing red wines and high quality, fortified wines, recently we’ve seen some delicious, award winning red and white wines emerging from the Swartland Wine Route, which continues to produce top class port style wines.

From the center of Cape Town head north, taking the N1/Table Bay Boulevard onramp. From the N1, take exit 10 (Sable Road), keep right, and follow the signs for the N7/Malmesbury. Stay on this road for about 60km. From the N7, exit left onto Voortrekker Road (R45) which loops around, and follow this road for approximately 800m until you reach De Kock Street.

Feast your eyes on an exquisite patchwork of yellow canola fields, green vineyards and indigenous flora in bloom in Spring, from late October to mid-November.

The Swartland is typically very hot in summer and cold in winter. Temperatures are moderate between March and November. Sun protection in summer is essential.

Plan at least a weekend, especially if you’ll be visiting wine and olive farms and local restaurants.
