Elgin Valley Wine Route Guide
Welcome to the Elgin Valley Wine Route
Welcome to the Elgin Valley Wine Route
The elegant wines of the Elgin Valley on the Cape South Coast have received exceptional acclaim and won coveted awards both locally and internationally. Recognised for their fruit driven and complex wines, it’s no wonder everyone is talking about Elgin wines of origin.
In the mid-1980s, the Elgin area was identified as a cool-climate wine growing destination, similar to the famed region of Burgundy in France. The vineyards benefit from the high altitudes and cold winters with abundant rainfall, followed by cool south-easterly sea breezes in summer. All these elements ensure ripening occurs slowly, resulting in wines of character, defined by excellent purity, complexity and elegance. Today the Elgin Valley Wine Route, aptly name Elegantly Elgin, comprises a blend of established wineries and enthusiastic newcomers who have already strengthened the area’s production and visitor appeal.
